These agents work to either correct overproduction or underexcretion of uric acid. For the long term control of gout, hyperuricemia caused by formation of uric acid from purines, can be effectively controlled with these agents. Antirheumatic drugs: (Pharmaceutical: Drugs) An antirheumatic is any drug used in the treatment of rheumatism. Antirheumatics can reduce or prevent joint damage associated with inflammatory disorders of the joints. Antirheumatics are used in the treatment of rheumatic diseases to reduce pain and stiffness.
